Chef Stefan Mejlak recently took over the running of the Le Bistro kitchen, and he has already proved to be a hit, with both local and international guests flocking to try his food. Here’s five reasons why:

1. Stefan ‘Grew Up’ at Le Bistro

Although he’s done plenty of fantastic things across his fabulous foodie career, Stefan actually first joined Le Bistro years ago – when he was just a novice in the kitchen. He was 20 at the time, and spent a few years working with past Le Bistro chefs, before taking on other challenges elsewhere. He’s now thrilled to be back at Le Bistro… and this time he’s in charge!

2. He Knows The Current Menu – And Has Recommendations

“There’s lots to love on the current menu!” Stefan says. “My favourites would have to be the slow-cooked lamb on a bed of savoy cabbage in a red wine jus, or the duck breast (served medium) on celeriac mash, mange tout and with a berry compote – delicious. Oh, and that’s not to mention the fresh, warm bread that’s served at the start of the meal; the homemade kunserva and garlic butter we serve with it are popular with all our guests.”

3. There’s a New Menu Coming up

Stefan’s already designing a brilliant new menu for diners to look forward to – keeping many of the time-honoured Le Bistro favourites, and introducing lots of new dishes to keep things exciting. While we can’t divulge too much yet, he promises there will be something for everyone, including plenty of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options. Check back for news in March!

4. He’s All About Keeping Things Fresh & Seasonal

Stefan is a huge fan of using the very freshest, seasonal and, ideally local, ingredients across his menu – which is a perfect fit for what Le Bistro has always stood for. “Carrots, fennel, sweet potatoes, herbs, tomatoes, mushrooms… they’re all in there,” he smiles. “I like to use local as much as I can – even when it comes to meat and fish. Our pork and lampuki are second to none.”

5. It’s All About You

Honestly, Stefan’s main focus is ensuring you have a good time. Le Bistro is literally his second home, and he is excited to welcome you into it – and to cook you up something that will hit the right spot. So come on over, take a look at the menu, and put your lunch or dinner the hands of Stefan and his fantastic team. Happy dining!
